Founded in 2002 by designer Samuel Rodriguez, Shorty Fatz was first introduced as a barrio funny pages, and a way to give a voice to his characters from prior graffiti excursions. The comics were passed around on xerox copies at lowrider car shows and flea markets in the Bay Area.
Today it has since shifted into becoming Samuel's independent design studio, which specializes in custom lettering, design and illustration. The process begins with a pencil and graph paper, keeping in mind that people might not know what they want to see until it's there. Here you see various way of working because projects are as diverse as the public that is involved, and keeping an open mind may create new possibilities. Each project has its own personality, and comes with a specia set of ingredients. The challenge is to figure out what those ingredients are, and to cook them up in the best way possible.
